Casual Lace Wedding Dress Anyone?

Breathtaking, amazing, vintage-inspired, 1970s, boho, hippie-chic are all precise words to describe our new lace dress. This dress is the epitome of quality and uniqueness. Funny enough, when my pattern-making team was presented with this design, one of them quickly said, this dress is the GEM of your collection. I am bias as I am the designer and I do think all pieces are museum worthy:-) This lace dress with its 1970s hippie bohemian feel immediately captures the attention, as it has a distinct look to it.

First, this dress is ultra, ultra, ultra special, if for no other reason, the time it took to make from start to finish. I remember when we were ‘auditioning’ one of our seamstresses, (yes, seamstresses goes through audition too, in LA it’s not just models and actors, everyone is auditioning here;-), we gave her this dress to make, and just by looking at it, she said “I can make it exactly like your sample”. My husband, aka, my business partner and I were relieved we had found someone with superb talent, because two seamstresses prior to her FAILED miserably at this dress. Needless to say, they didn’t get cast for the job. Well, when we went back three days later to review the final product, we were stunned, we were unable to tell the dresses apart. The dress she made and the sample were identical. Well, she was happy that we were happy, but, after the short-lived happiness faded, she shared with us how complicated the dress was to make, even using our pattern. She said it took her three days to ‘perfect it’.

The fact that it took her three days, and two other ‘experienced’ seamstresses failed at perfection, we thought, maybe this dress would be too complicated and costly, and we even discussed possibly not including it in our line-up of lace dresses. We are happy to report that not only has our seamstress ‘owned’ the technique, we now have another two seamstresses who are champions of this lace dress. We were beyond elated that we were able to keep the price of the dress very competitive at $325. This is the beauty of selling directly to the public, versus wholesaling, we are able to keep our prices competitive. Shown here in ivory, it is also available in black, and is available in two sizes – XS/Small and Medium/Large. Follow the link to see the measurements and other details of this patchwork lace dress.

For this amazing vintage-inspired dress, it is crafted from 100% cotton lace, 100% cotton for the solid portions, and the two contrasting lace trim used throughout, is also made from cotton. The bell sleeves are nothing short of AH-MAZING, and the overall workmanship makes this dress a true gem.

I am sure we could have had this mass-produced in China, but I am even more sure this dress would be sub-par and lackluster, and much of the home-made details which contributes to the uniqueness, would be lost. Beyond that, I might never have known how truly talented and persistent my seamstresses are.

As with all of our lace dresses for women, this would make a stunning casual lace wedding dress. It is the answer for the girl in search of quality, one-of-a-kind design, and at a fair price.

Do you agree that this is a fabulous choice for a casual lace wedding dress?

Be Year Round Chic in a Maxi Dress

The maxi dress is a crucial player in a woman’s wardrobe, it is versatile, most can be worn year-round depending on where you live, but also importantly how it is styled. Have you ever had one of those days where you stare in your overstuffed closet, and you just had nothing to wear? If you are like me, then you have had way more than one of those days.

Next time you are having one of those days, reach for your maxi dress, you will be pleased how chic you’ll look in a flash. Here on this blog, and in my online store, I am always stressing the importance of effortless chic, and the maxi dress should be filed in that category.

99.99% of people will look incredible in a maxi dress…..I was tempted to write 100%, but I know there is that 0.01% who has sworn off wearing one, and maybe they are reading, so I digress. This does not mean that I am convinced otherwise. Chances are the people who believe they are the exception, are probably choosing an unflattering print, length, or inappropriate weight. I hate to get this technical because, it should be effortless, and it is, but there are a few guidelines to note, especially if you are petite, tall, etc…..anything outside of the ‘average’. Also note, I am way outside of the average being 6 feet tall, so you get the drift.

As a petite woman, you may have being told, or may have thought that you would look best NOT wearing a maxi dress…myth. Yes, this is a myth. The reason why this myth has become somewhat a mainstay, is based on the notion that petite women looks best with at least three inches of their leg showing, while this may be partially true, it does not disqualify you looking flawless and sumptuous in a maxi. The key here is to choose a light and breathable fabric. Chunkier knits, or heavier fabrics may not be the most flattering, but think a ethereal boho maxi dress, or a close fitting soft viscose draped jersey number. This would be so luxurious and chic. Furthermore, maxi dresses are known for creating the illusion of being taller, so if you don’t mind looking a bit taller, then I would say it’s a go. It is also advisable to choose a pattern or cut with a vertical orientation. Generally speaking, petite women looks irresistible in monochrome designs, and a deep, and if you are daring enough, a plunging neckline version.

As a tall woman, the maxi dress should be your best clothes friend…it is definitely one of mine. The maxi floor-length skirt is still reigning supreme in my closet……although, the tug of war continues. As pointed out before, a maxi dress will make you appear even taller, especially when worn in a monochromatic color, this is a great thing, although not all tall woman will favor this. If you are one such tall woman, you may need to take this in to consideration. Tall woman may also find that adding a belt balances the waist and creates a flawless silhouette. Being tall, you are able to wear ultra full silhouettes and really fun frills, ruffles, and prints.

Plus size women should embrace and own a selection of maxi dresses, as they are uber flattering. Many maxi dresses are ethereal and flowy, and this would make for a flattering fit on a plus size woman. You will be pleased with how these dresses will minimize the hips and legs, and creating a fabulous silhouette. Like tall women, adding a belt around the narrowest portion of your waist will heighten the wow factor. Finally, choose a print that is larger, rather then teeny tiny ones, and when choosing solids, darker colors are always a winner.

If you are a woman of the average proportions, then chances are you own quite a few maxi dresses, and now you are thinking of adding more to your collection. In this case, visit our online store for an array of maxi dresses, both vintage and new.

Every body type will benefit from knowing that a maxi dress does not mean dressy, it can, and should be also worn casual as well. It looks great worn layered, or wearing with a more sensible high heel, with flats for a more casual look, or with boots for a boho flair.

Do you own quite a few maxi dresses, and do you agree with the above guidelines?

Evening Jumpsuits | Style Tips | New Arrivals

Jumpsuits are one of those trends that seems to always be back in style. The main reason being that jumpsuits are quite easy to style, and are extremely flattering. Many people tend to be intimidated by these all-in-one, but once you get the FIT part right, then your jumpsuit will never fail you.

We added 5 new vintage jumpsuits to our site today, and all pieces are suitable for evening, and can be easily be a substitute to a cocktail dress. As I mentioned earlier the importance is getting the fit right. Before I show you the styles, I will give you a crash course on how to choose the best fitting jumpsuit.

1. Generally speaking, jumpsuits tends to be more universally flattering in solid shades, especially when wearing vintage styles, solids tend to lend a more contemporary feel. Important to point out, it does not necessarily have to be black or dark shades, just a solid shade. However, there are some people, who love prints, and to you I say, go for it, just choose an illustrative print, one that has an extraordinary print, as is the case with the vintage jumpsuit I am showing here.

2. Draped silhouettes also tend to be universally flattering.

3. Wide legged jumpsuits tends to work better on women with longer legs, or for a more petite woman, wide legged jumpsuits are not totally off limits, the length can be easily compensated by wearing gravity-defying high heels.

4. For taller women, it is important to check the crotch, if it is too tight in the crotch area, it is best to avoid it at all cost, nothing is great enough to have the dreaded c-toe. (I am weird, I hate spelling the word out completely, blame it on my strict upbringing, I guess:-) lol. There are however some styles, that are a bodycon fit, they are meant to be tight, these will be fitted, but it should be a comfortable fit, and should not pull in the crotch area.

These are the basic issues to the fit of the jumpsuit, master these, and you will realize how glamorous and versatile jumpsuits are. I think jumpsuits, looks great worn belted, as to break up the look. Also as a quick styling tip, add a blazer to your evening jumpsuits in a contrasting color for a flawless dressy glam look.

Take a look at the below, and let us know which is your favorite. Be sure to check out our full collection of dressy jumpsuits in our store.

Lace Dress Vintage Inspired | Instant Chic

lace-dress-vintage-1960s-inspiredThis vintage-inpsired lace dress is near and dear to my heart. For years, my heart ached for an elegant lace dress that had huge dramatic ruffles, and guess what? I could not find one that was within my budget. Yes, Valentino, Chanel, and other luxury designers usually keep these stocked year round, but I wanted one that would not break the bank.

Lace combined with ruffles is a covetable combination, in that it makes the wearer instantly polished and chic. This vintage inspired dress from the DREAMERS collection has an air of being polished with its high neckline, dramatic tuxedo cascading ruffles down the center, and ruffled wrist. The crystal rhinestone sparkles and adds richness and lavishness to this sophisticated style.

This short ruffle dress is special for many reasons, as with all our DREAMERS dresses, its made of a very high quality cotton lace. It is locally made here in Los Angeles, California and its impeccable style transcends time. This is the beauty of being vintage inspired, because the wearer can be assured, this is a style that will outlive trends.

This lace dress is the perfect dress to wear to an event requiring a cocktail dress. If you’re like me, and you start thinking ahead for the holiday parties, then this is the dress for all those cocktail parties. It would also be perfect for a city center wedding. I actually wore mine to the popular STK restaurant in Los Angeles this past weekend, and it received rave reviews. Yes, now that I am a designer, I am almost always in my designs. Short Wedding Dresses | Perfect for the Chic Bride

I recall as a little girl, I was always in awe when I envisioned what my wedding dress would look like. I dreamed of an ultra poufy wedding gown, with a train so long, that I would need many helpers. Needless to say, when the time came for my marriage, we eloped, and so this over-the-top traditional wedding dress did not become a reality.

Honestly, had I not eloped, and instead had a storybook wedding, I would have opted instead for a chic but poufy short dress. One of my very best friends, who I often compare to Carrie Bradshaw, in Sex and the City, because of her covetable style and enviable wardrobe, had an amazingly chic storybook wedding and she wore a sensational white glass beaded short poufy dress, and with the blue seas in the backdrop, the dress shimmered and she SIZZLED.

I am not sure if this is what led to this everlasting love of short wedding dresses, but this love is real and undying. If you are in search of the perfect short wedding dresses, the DREAM-ERS line is a place to start and snap up this jaw-dropping short lace wedding dress. This beauty was designed by yours truly, and the neckline can be amended to a different cut if you like.

Still not sure, if a short wedding dress is for you? Well, not that this should be ‘the-sell’ but short wedding dresses are currently at an all-time high. It seems many brides are requiring more demonstration of individuality, less fuss, and dare I say becoming more CHIC. Adding to this, short wedding dresses are perfect for beach weddings and destination weddings.

The only rule of thumb when wearing short dresses, are that you must go AMAZING on the shoes. Sorry, you can’t hide those ugly caparros satin dyed shoes, under your ultra long, ultra frilly dress….sorry.

Here are some other dresses that are stunning as well.
