It all began in 2012 when Yanique left her job as a manager at Chanel to chase her dreams. She started creating awesome boho lace mini dresses and brides bought them up and kept asking for more. She had no idea that she was going to be a wedding dress designer. She had collected vintage for years, and her style was decidedly modern chic bohemian. Her first design was a mini lace dress with bell sleeves. She and her husband would dye them in their kitchen sinks in loads of cool colors. She’d wear them, and he’d photograph them, and then she listed them for sale on Etsy.
People were buying them up, and she knew she was on to something, then a pattern emerged. She calls it Divine Intervention, brides were buying them up and requesting the dress in a maxi length. Then came the Eureka moment, the stars aligned, and Yanique became a bohemian bridal designer. Yanique realized that brides loved her dresses because they weren’t the cookie-cutter wedding dresses available at the time. Her dresses allowed brides to express themselves and to tell the story they wanted to highlight.
In retrospect, Yanique admits that this was her calling. A year before risking it all to become an indie-designer, her BFF had gotten married at an intimate wedding in Big Sur. Yanique had headed the search for ‘the one,’ and she recalls how unfruitful the dress search was because everything was either frou-frou or over budget. This experience left a mark on how Yanique runs the business today.
Dreamers & Lovers is a brand where every dress made is an art form. A dress crafted from passion, crafted for that individual bride, and so the bride wearing it will feel the soul of the dress and realize like her story, her dress is extraordinary. She never designs common styles, but instead, her dresses evoke an emotion, spark a conversation and transport the bride to a place where she feels something, where she can be free to dream, free to look her best self. Each dress sold has some “extras” that Yanique and the team obsess over. Every dress is designed and handmade in our Torrance, California studio and showroom, and always made to the bride’s measurements.
